Louisiana, museo
Moltissime mostre temporanee.

The starting-point for the first phase of the building, which was completed in 1958, was the old villa built on the Louisiana estate in 1856.
The aim was to provide an unpretentious setting for a collection of modern art.
The grounds, with their beautiful lawns and old trees, a small lake and views of the Sound, played their part in determining the design of the building.
The architects, Jørgen Bo and Vilhelm Wohlert, wanted to increase the possibilities of enjoying the scenery, so they wandered round for months before starting to draw. They got to know the terrain literally through the soles of their feet, deciding which trees simply must be kept and studying the way the sunlight gradually moved from hour to hour.
The outcome of this was the first phase of the building, consisting of glass corridors and three pavilions which, although suitable for a small permanent collection, proved inadequate for carrying the successive exhibitions which at one time formed Louisiana’s principal form of activity.
Gradual Expansion New wings for these exhibitions were therefore added in 1966 and 1971. In 1976 the Concert Hall followed, and in 1982 the South Wing was built, specially designed for the museum’s own collection, which in the past often had to be tucked away for lack of space.
Finally, the wing for drawings and graphic art was completed in 1991.
